Elite League officials took to the ice as part of a two-day pre-season camp in Nottingham last weekend.
Around 40 participants attended the Elite League Officials Camp as preparations continue for the start of the new season.
The weekend featured two days of classroom and on-ice activity, covering areas including Video Reviews and Standards, as well as presentations on Concussion Awareness and Leadership & Accountability.
The camp was led by Motorpoint Elite League Head of Hockey Operations Liam Sewell, alongside the League’s officiating coaches and IIHF Head of Officiating Scott Zelkin.
“It was great to have our officials together ahead of the start of the season and to have two full days with them, which is something we haven’t been able to do in a long time,” said Sewell.
“Just as teams get together for pre-season camps, this is really important for officials as well. Unfortunately, we don’t get the opportunity to train together every week during the season so while we have weekly online meetings, this gives us the chance to take a much more hands-on approach to different aspects of our game and make sure everyone is prepared going into the new season.
“We also included around 15 trainees for this season. Some have already officiated games in our league, while others will be stepping into games at different points this season.
“Working with the next generation of officials is just as important as continuing to develop those who already officiate in our league.”
