BRAMPTON, ON – Both A.J. Jenks and Alden Hirschfeld scored in the shootout as Toledo erased a 3-1 deficit in a 4-3 shootout win Thursday night in Brampton. Toledo has an overall record of 14-7-1-3 and 10-5-1-2 on the road.
Brampton struck first as a blue line shot from Jordan Henry snuck through Walleye goaltender Jeff Lerg at 2:52 of the first period. Toledo tied the game late in the first period as Zach Nastasiuk (4th) slid a shot under Brampton goaltender Edward Pasquale at 17:30.
The Beast started fast again in the second period scoring goals at 2:32 and 12:18 to build a 3-1 lead. Toledo picked up a power play late in the second period and Hirschfeld (12th) deflected a Scott Czarnowczan shot in the back of the net at 17:51 to trim the lead to 3-2 after two periods.
In the third period, Austin Wuthrich (7th) tied the game at three just 2:40 in. The two teams went scoreless the rest of the way including Toledo killing off a five on three Brampton power play in the third period. Goals from Jenks and Alden Hirschfeld in the shootout led Toledo to the win.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 31 of 34 shots and has a record of 9-3-2… Toledo has a record of 4-1-0 vs. Brampton this season…Hirschfeld leads the ECHL with 8 power play goals.
