CINCINNATI, OH – Blake Tatchell recorded three points and Matt DeBlouw had a goal and an assist to help Wichita claim a 5-1 victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday night at US Bank Arena.
The win snapped a 13-game winless skid for the Thunder. With the victory, Head Coach Malcolm Cameron moved into solo sixth place all-time in ECHL history with 333 wins.
It didn’t take long for the Thunder to grab a 1-0 lead as Ian Lowe fired a shot off a face-off past Michael Houser just 36 seconds into the game. Shane Walsh tied it at one with four minutes left as he came up the left wing and snapped a shot past Scott Greenham.
DeBlouw helped re-gained the lead for the Thunder as he cut across the crease and beat Houser with a backhand to make it 2-1. His goal came just 12 seconds into the second period. At the nine-minute mark, Tatchell increased the lead to 3-1 as a shot from Alexis Vanier hit off Friedmann near the left post, came across all the way to the right face-off dot and he one-timed it home.
In the third, Tatchell added his second of the game at 7:33 as he came up the right wing and beat Houser with a backhand to make it 4-1. Ryan Tesink added an empty-net goal with just over a minute remaining to make it 5-1.
Lowe tallied his sixth of the season and needs one more point to tie Mark Karpen for fifth place all-time in a Thunder uniform with 203 points. Tatchell netted his third multi-point outing in his last five games (2 goals, 1 assist). Greenham earned his ninth win of the season, stopping 19 of 20 shots. Houser took the loss, stopping 18 of 23 shots he faced.
Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play. Cincinnati was 0-for-1 on the man advantage.
The Thunder remains in Ohio on Friday night to face the Cincinnati Cyclones at 6:35 p.m. CST.
