TULSA, Okla. – The Kansas City Mavericks defeated the Tulsa Oilers by a 3-1 final Friday night to extend their win streak to three games.
Here are three observations from the win:
Still Streaking
The Mavericks extended several streaks in the win, including their win streak now hitting three games and their streak against Tulsa now reaching nine consecutive victories. Individually, Matt Robertson has now scored back-to-back game-winning goals for KC and has run up six points in the last three games while Eric Freschi’s assist on Robertson’s marker extended his scoring streak to three games, now at eight points (2G+6A).
McDonald Strong Again
Two nights after setting a new season high with 39 saves on Wednesday, Mason McDonald stopped 30 of 31 pucks that he saw Friday night – the lone goal coming on a redirection. McDonald seems to have settled into the starting role, having turned away 98 of 106 shots faced during the current three-game win streak. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native is now above .500 on the year with an 8-7-0-1 record between the pipes for Kansas City and looks to continue trending up.
Finishing Strong
While tonight’s game was the sixth of a season-long seven-game road trip that dates back to last Tuesday, the Mavericks have not lost any jump and have kept building on their strong play, now reaching a much-needed three-game win streak. Tonight’s game went tied into the third before the Mavericks won the final 20 minutes by a 3-1 tally, a strong finish to a tightly-contested game. KC will now set its sights on closing the road trip with a four-game win streak to extend its dominance over Tulsa to 10 games when the puck drops Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
The Mavericks and Oilers will face off at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena Sunday night for the New Year’s Eve game at 7:05 p.m. Tickets for that game remain on sale.
