Thursday was a busy day in free agency signing for the NHL. The Colorado Avalanche signed a one-year deal with former Buffalo Sabres prospect Mikhail Grigorenko.
Grigorenko was acquired in a multi-player deal between the two teams in late June. The Sabres and Grigorenko had had a rather tumultuous relationship with issues of assignment to the Rochester Americans and threatening to leave the organization at one point.
The Los Angeles Kings were the busiest of teams signing five restricted free agents on the day. Included in the signings were Nick Shore (two years), Jordan Weal (one year), Andrew Crescenzi (one year), Nic Dowd (one year) and Vincent LoVerde (two years).
The Philadelphia Flyers signed defenseman Michael Del Zotto to a reported two-year deal on Thursday.
“I loved Philadelphia, didn’t want to be stuck on a one-year deal and run the risk of being [an unrestricted free agent] next year,” Del Zotto told CSN Philly’s Tim Panaccio (from NHL.com).
