Stuart Skinner signed a two-year, $7.5 million contract with the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday. It has an average annual value of $3.75 million.
The 27-year-old goalie was 23-17-9 with a 2.92 goals-against average, .888 save percentage and two shutouts in 50 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers last season, including 12-9-5 with a 2.99 GAA and .885 save percentage in 27 games with Pittsburgh after he was acquired in a trade on Dec. 12. He was 0-3 with a 3.08 GAA and .873 save percentage in three Stanley Cup Playoff games.
“I know some of the guys on the team already living out in Calgary now, so it’ll be easy for me to get on the ice and get some good summer training with those guys and really develop a great relationship with those guys,” Skinner said. “All in all, it’s a great place for me to go, and I’m really excited to be part of this organization.
“I think it’s just the place that I really wanted to go. Talking about the teammates that are there — the type of culture, how it’s managed, ownership, everything like that — was really the exciting part for me.”
Skinner helped Edmonton reach the Cup Final in 2024 and 2025, where it lost to the Florida Panthers each time.
Selected by Edmonton in the third round (No. 78) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Skinner is 121-71-23 with a 2.77 GAA, .902 save percentage and nine shutouts in 224 regular-season games (218 starts) for the Oilers and Penguins and 26-25 with a 2.89 GAA, .892 save percentage and four shutouts in 53 playoff games.
“I think it takes a lot of strength to be able to play well, no matter what the noise is, no matter what’s going on,” Skinner said. “I feel like I’ve done a really good job on being able to take away from distractions and being focused on my job. I think resiliency is one of my best assets, and I take a lot of pride in that. Being able to learn from that in a tough market, in the situations that I faced, I think only makes you stronger, only makes you better, and I think that’s going to help me for the rest of my NHL career.”
The Jets also signed Mario Ferraro to a three-year, $12 million contract ($4 million AAV) on Wednesday. The 37-year-old defenseman had 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 82 games for the San Jose Sharks last season. Selected in the second round (No. 49) of the 2017 NHL Draft by San Jose, Ferraro has 114 points (24 goals, 90 assists) in 490 regular-season games with the Sharks.
