Steelers victors in Cardiff again

Sheffield Steelers recorded their second league win of the season in Cardiff, beating the Cardiff Devils by three at the Vindico Arena.

The Devils were ahead through Kohen Olischefski after 50 seconds, but a perfectly weighted pass set up Brett Ritchie for the tying goal with just over six minutes left in the opening period. A Stephen Harper one-timer with 65 seconds remaining in the first then sailed past Christian Stoever to put the Steelers ahead.

The Devils needed almost 10 minutes of the second period to level, but did so when a pass across the slot was finished by Brett Ferguson. In the final 90 seconds of the middle frame, Reece Kelly cleared the puck off the line with his skate to keep the game tied.

A well-worked play saw the Steelers regain the lead 3:20 into the third period, with an inch-perfect pass from Patrick Watling setting up Ryan Tait for a one-time finish. Stoever later denied Mitchell Balmas on a shorthanded breakaway with under nine minutes to play and the teams still separated by a goal.

Stoever was pulled with 95 seconds remaining, but the Devils lost both of the resulting faceoffs with the empty net. Mikko Juusola eventually fired into the open cage to seal the win, before Mitch Heard added another with 6.8 seconds left to complete the three-goal victory.
