SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks fell to the Buffalo Sabres in back and forth action Saturday with a final score of 4-3.
Buffalo’s Marcus Johansson scored first, 12:10 into the period from the top of the left circle, when his quick shot beat Martin Jones five-hole. But it wouldn’t be long before Timo Meier’s powerplay shot from low in zone found the top shelf. Patrick Marleau created a distraction in front of the net, allowing Meier’s shot to sore past him to tie the score at one each.

Second period action continued, with several chances by both teams. It would be Casey Mittelstadt that would get the next goal when a shot from Henri Jokiharju shot from the blue line was deflected just in front of the net allowing it to get past Jones glove side. Buffalo led 2-1 going into the second intermission.
The Sharks had another power play opportunity, only 44 seconds into the third, when Tomas Hertl picked up a rebound and beat Linus Ullmark five-hole to even the score yet again. Buffalo found a way to draw Jones out of the net, and a loose puck was ultimately tipped in by Jeff Skinner from the crease, between the net and Jones for the go-ahead goal at 2:28. Only seconds later, Brent Burns made a shot towards the net from the boards near the blue line, that tipped off of Marcus Sorensen’s skate into the net. The teams were tied at three until 12:15 when another rebound goal beat Jones, glove side to the upper part of the net off the stick of Zimgus Girgenson.
Several more chances for both teams, Ullmark making some incredible saves towards the end, but the Sharks offense was not able to capitalize.
The Sabres get the win, their fifth in their last six games, finishing off their California road trip in style.
