SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks topped the visiting Calgary Flames on Saturday night with a final score of 5-2. The Sharks have won seven of their last eight games (14-9-0).
Tommy Wingels scored the first goal of the game at 9:03 of the first period. Tomas Hertl scored this third goal of the season less than four minutes later.
In the second period, Joel Ward and Patrick Marleau each scored power play goals less than a minute apart coming at 10:04 and 10:54 respectively.
Markus Granlund, recently called up from Stockton Heat, scored his first goal of the season for Calgary at 9:42 of the third period, only to be answered by a Marc-Edouard Vlasic goal at 10:07. The final goal came off the stick of Michael Ferland, also his first of the season.
Martin Jones earned the win with 25 saves, while Jonas Hiller took the loss with 24 saves.
Calgary has been struggling lately, with 8-14-2 for the season and only scoring three or fewer goals in their last nine games.
