Saint Louis Blues defeat Sharks in five games

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Saint Louis Blues will advance to the Western Conference Semifinals.   The season has ended for the San Jose Sharks, as they were defeated in five games.

It seemed like things were going in the Sharks favor early in the game, though no goals were scored in the first 39 minutes of play. Joe Thornton wristed a shot past Brian Elliott, to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead at the end of the second period.

Tempers did flair early in the second period, as Chris Stewart and Tommy Wingels went toe-to-toe, but the officials settled things back down before they got out of hand.

The third period belonged to the Blues.   A goal at 11:16 by Jamie Langenbrunner, followed at 12:01 by a David Perron goal, gave the Blues the advantage.   They sealed the deal on an empty net goal at 19:21, on a backhanded shot from Andy McDonald.

Annti Niemi took the loss in the net for the Sharks with 24 saves, while Elliott had 26 saves for the night and the win.
