MACON, Ga. — The Macon Mayhem (28-8-5) got goals from four different players as the Mississippi RiverKings (24-18-2) dropped the first game of a two-game series in
Macon 4-0 on Friday night.
The Mayhem jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first. Stephen Pierog took a pass from Matt Summers and wristed a shot past Brad Barone at the 5:20 mark of the first period to give the Mayhem a 1-0 lead. Summers added to Macon’s lead as he hammered home a rebound 14:11 into the first to extend the RiverKing deficit to 2-0 going into the first intermission.
In the second, the Mayhem grew their lead to three. Daniel Gentzler lifted a rebound to the back of the net with a shot from the doorstep on the power play, giving Macon a 3-0 lead going into the third period.
Macon did not relent in the third. Mark Rivera wristed a shot off the the post through traffic for the Mayhem’s third power play goal of the night to give the hometeam a 4-0 lead. The Mayhem held on to shutout the RiverKings in the first of this weekend’s two-game series.
Brad Barone (14-11-2) took the loss after stopping 28 of 32 shots against. Jordan Ruby (17-4-3) stopped all 27 shots against in the win.
The RiverKings were held scoreless on seven power play opportunities, while the Mayhem went three for eight with the man advantage.
