Columbus, GA – The Columbus River Dragons achieved a blowout victory against the Monroe Moccasins in regulation on Friday night, 8-3.

Tyler Barrow tallied the first goal for the River Dragons after just 50 seconds of play in the first period, followed by Alexander Jmaeff at 6:33.
Frank Schumacher managed to answer back for Monroe at 16:45, closing the inaugural frame with Columbus ahead, 2-1.
In the second period, the River Dragons exploded.
Alex Storjohann, Bradley Fortin, Kyle Moore, and Kirk Underwood each pushed past Monroe’s goaltender Chris Branch, all while maintaining an iron-clad defense against a hungry Moccasins bench.
Monroe, going scoreless in the second, watched their chances of defeating the River Dragons slip away. The frame concluded with Columbus towering over the Moccasins, 6-1.
In the final twenty minutes of regulation, Columbus allowed two goals to slip past, but scored two of their own to maintain a healthy lead.
Michael Hagan Moe and Frank Schumacher tallied goals against River Dragon’s goaltender, Trevor Babin, but Kirk Underwood and Dustin Jesseau muscled past Monroe, closing the first game of the initial round of playoffs in favor of Columbus, 8-3.
Trevor Babin faced 38 shot attempts by Monroe, stopping 35 of them to achieve a 92.1 SV%.
Chris Branch faced 24 of the River Dragons’ 33 shot attempts, allowing 7 goals. Nolan Egbert faced 8 of Columbus’ 33 shots, allowing one goal as well.
The Columbus River Dragons will battle the Monroe Moccasins on the road tonight, with Monroe in a must-win scenario, or face the end of their incredible season.
Puck drop is scheduled to take place in Monroe at 8:05 pm.
