QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — The Quebec Remparts came into Victoriaville Wednesday night wanting to avenge Sunday’s loss, their third in as many confrontations against the same Tigres. Quebec took control of the game scoring four times in first period adding six others in the third period devouring Victoriaville 10-0. John Audy-Marchessault with two goals one assist was the best Remparts forward.
Quebec began the game strong, scoring three times on their first eight shots sending Tigres starting goaltender Antonio Mastropietro to the showers. John-Audy Marchessault got Quebec on the scoreboard with the first of two for the night, his 30th of the season 4:13 into the opening period.
Joel Champagne 7:01 later gave Quebec two goal leads when his shot finds tiny hole between Mastropietro left arm and his body for Champagne 21st goal of the year.
Victoriaville head coach Yannick Jean pulled his starting netminder after Alexandre Grenier beat Victoriaville goaltender taking rebound from defenseman Alex Wall’s shot giving a 3-0 lead to Quebec at 13:06.
Rookie left winger Axel Rioux welcomed Victoriaville’s David Honzig with Quebec’s fourth goal 15 seconds later. Quebec ended first period scoring four goals on 15 shots in nine minutes. Mastropietro left the game making five saves on eight shots in 13:06 minutes of play.
Neither team scored in the second period despite a few good scoring saves by Tigres goaltender and Quebec netminder Louis Domingue, one fight broke out between Victoriaville center Philippe Maillet and Frederick Roy 1:11. Tigres got three power plays opportunities without scoring, Quebec still look for his first power play opportunity after forty minutes.
Remparts defenseman Vincent Barnard took a rebound shot from Ryan Bourque shot from behind the net giving no chance to Tigres netminder for Quebec fifth goal in the game at 7:40 of the third period.
Victoriaville took their first penalty of the game in the third period when Guillaume Goulet was guilty of hooking 9:39. Taking penalty against the best power play in the league wasn’t really good idea. Quebec didn’t miss their only chance they had at that time scoring their sixth goal in the game when Frederick Roy deflected a shot from defenseman Wall at 11:31.
Marchessault scored his second of the game, a personal record, with his 31st of the season deflecting a pass attempt from defenseman Mikael Tam 2:03 later.
Entering the offensive zone Tomas Filippi found Joe Dube who beat Victoriaville goaltender for Quebec ninth goals at 15:06. Ryan Bourque 17:35 and rookie defenseman Ryan Culkin 19:59 completed the scoring for the night. Beside goaltender Domingue only one Remparts players don’t get points in the game Mathieu Lavalle is the other.
Next Quebec game will be this Friday Night February 4th when the Remparts will host the Montreal Junior. The Gatineau Olympiques will visit Quebec on Saturday night.
In Chicoutimi Richard Martel has been fired
<:u2:p>A surprise awaited Chicoutimi players before their games at home against Rimouski. Chicoutimi President and Governor Guy Carboneau fired General Manager and head coach Richard Martel. Portrait of QMJHL will stay the same <:u2:p>January 31 at 12:00 am was the QMJHL deadline for any owner of the QMJHL franchise to file paper to the Commissioner office requesting relocation or a transfer to another town. Lots of rumors swirled around the QMJHL since the regular season began about teams that might request a transfer to another town for economic factors, whether assistance to the games isn’t what the team expected or some other difficulties. Fortunately for the QMJHL Commissioner Gilles Courteau, none of these rumors became reality. Teams most often heard in rumors were, the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, the Prince Edwards Island Rocket and the Lewiston MAIMEiacs. The most persistent rumor would see the owner of MAINEiacs, Mark Just, filing papers requesting his team to be transfer to Summerside. Rumor of some discussions between groups of businessmen lead by former NHL goaltender Jocelyn Thibeau and the owner of the Prince Edward Island about an offer to buy the Rocket to transfer the team in Sherbrooke were confirmed but the negotiation didn’t materialized and Prince Edward Island will stay in Maritime. In a statement published on Tuesday February 1 on the League website, the Commissioner Gilles Courteau confirmed that no official request for sale or relocation had been sent to his attention at the league office. “Although a number of reports have been published over the past few weeks, not a single Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team submitted a request to sell or relocate on January 31st.” the Commissioner said on the QMJHL League website. “Guidelines are outlined in our constitution and our members are well aware of the process regarding these types of request.” In essence, the Commissioner is responsible for evaluating any request and making any recommendations to the league’s members if deemed necessary. “It is a long process without any guarantee of success since a sale or a request for relocation must be approved by our members,” added the Commissioner on the league press release.
