QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Winners over Rouyn-Noranda less than 24 hours ago, Quebec came to Val-d’Or hoping to add another win in the victory column. Adam Erne with two goals, defensemen Vincent Barnard and Martin Lefebvre with three assists each led Quebec to 5-1 win over Val-d’Or Foreurs.
Back in goal after Francois Brassard tended the net the night before, veteran Louis Domingue missed his third shutout opportunity with 5:52 remaining in the game making 27 saves on Val-d’Or 28 shots.
Quebec’s victory against Foreurs was the Remparts 7th win in their last eight games and by the same occasion keeping the best record on the road in the QMJHL with their 8th victory in their last 11 games on the road.
Quebec opened the scoring with 14:26 gone in the opening period. Taking advantage of a scoring opportunity on Val-d’Or change on the fly, the visitors went on a three-on-two that ended with Remparts’ defenseman Owen Werthner’s 5th goal of the regular season.
Domingue was perfect in the opening period stopping all Foreurs 10 shots on goal. Quebec shot 7 times on Francois Tremblay.
Quebec added two goals to their lead in the second period. Veteran defenseman Vincent Barnard played key role on Remparts two goals. On Quebec second goal Barnard’s wrist shot deflected on Jeremie Malouin stick giving no chance to Val-d’Or netminder 8:05 into the period.
Quebec’s third goal was scored by Frederick Roy on a four-on-three power play with only 5 seconds remaining to middle frame. Barnard saw his one-timer being tip in by Roy. Quebec was 1-in-3 with a man advantage after the first two periods, Val-d’Or was 0-in-2.
Val-d’Or best chance offensively came from the stick of Benjamin Casavant when his shot hit the post.
Adam Erne, with two goals in third period first one unassisted with 15:54 remaining and his second deflecting a one-timer from the blue line by Barnard at 6:49, completed Quebec scoring.
Michael Beaudry ended Domingue’s bid for his third shutout with his 8th of the year for Foreurs at 15:08.
After Quebec’s 5th goal, Foreurs head coach Marc-Andre Dumont pulled his starting netminder Tremblay who allowed five goals on 23 Quebec shots, sending Hugo Campeau for the rest of the game who stopped all six Remparts shots he faced.
