CLEVELAND – In the third of four meetings between the two teams this season, Cleveland’s Lake Erie Monsters were defeated on Sunday at The Q by the Toronto Marlies by a final score of 4-1. With the loss, the Monsters fell to 34-21-5-5 overall this season and with a .600 points percentage, remain alone in fourth place in the AHL’s Central Division standings.
After a scoreless first period, the Marlies netted three second-frame even-strength tallies, from Eric Faille at 4:58, Andrew Campbell at 9:59 and Richard Clune at 19:17, to take a 3-0 lead into the final stanza. The Monsters made it 3-1 thanks to a five-on-five Lukas Sedlak goal, assisted by Trent Vogelhuber, at 1:18 of the third, but Toronto’s T.J. Brennan notched the game’s only additional score, an empty-net marker at 19:58 that delivered the Marlies a 4-1 win.
