PHN’s Best Shots of the Game: Danville gets past Demonz for 9th straight win

DANVILLE, Ill – The Danville Dashers, riding an eight-game win streak coming into tonight, took on the Dayton Demonz. The Demonz started off very fast and that quick start resulted in an Ahmed Mahfouz goal with an assist from Jared Hicks. The first period was the Dan McWhinney show; making save after save, McWhinney held the PHN_BSOG-200x133Dashers scoreless. The Demonz took that early goal into the locker room and had a 1-0 lead.

The Dashers had a flurry of shots on net to start the period, but all were turned wide by McWhinney. The Dashers finally broke through that brick wall that was McWhinney with a goal by Dan Turgeon, with an assist from Justin Brausen. Keep the Turgeon and Brausen combo in mind as we move forward in the game. The Second period ended in a 1-1 tie.

The Dashers and Demonz were both scoreless in the third period, but that doesn’t mean it was without plenty of action. The Dashers Joe Pace had a tilt against the Demonz Cody Milligan, which after all penalties were assessed, the Dashers faced a seven minute penalty to kill, which they did perfectly.DSC_3865

The Demonz and Dashers would head to overtime after a highlight film save by McWhinney at the horn of the third period. In the overtime session, the Dashers Justin Brausen skated into the zone and toe dragged around Len Pelletier, which resulted in a two on one with Dan Turgeon at his side. Brausen faked on a wrist shot and then threw the puck across for Turgeon who blew a one timer home that sent the Demonz all the way back to Dayton.

With the win the Dashers are on a nine game winning streak. The Dashers are back in action next Friday at home against Steel City.
