Mueller’s two goals propel Hartford to OT win Wolf Pack take 3-2 series lead

HERSHEY, Pa – If Chris Mueller was never accused of having the flare for the dramatics before Wednesday night the critics might want to reconsider that notion. Mueller scored twice in dramatic fashion Wednesday night in Game Five of the Eastern Conference Semifinal playoff series with the Hartford Wolf Pack defeating the Hershey 2015 Calder Cup logoBears 5-4 in overtime not only the game time goal but the game winning goal in overtime, shorthanded Hershey Bears to take a 3-2 series lead in their AHL playoff series.

Mueller scored the first of his two goals with only 3:24 remaining in regulation to tie the game at 4-4. Mueller put the final dagger in Hershey’s heart scoring shorthanded during a bench minor for too many men on the ice, but Mueller scored 11:39 mark of OT to give the Wolf Pack the edge in series.

After scoring first in the game the Bears scored three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead in the game, but Hartford scored three of the games next four goals to set up Muellers’ heroics in overtime. Hartford looked like the better of the two teams as the game went along but it took a lucky break to finish off the Bears on this night.

Hartford will look to close out the series Friday night in Hartford but will swing back to Hershey should a Game Seven be necessary. Philipp Grubauer allowed five goals on 42 while Yann Denis made 34 saves on 38 shots for the Wolf Pack. Both teams scored a goal a goal apiece on the power play.
