Andrei Kuzmenko signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old forward had 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 52 regular-season games for the Los Angeles Kings last season and no points in one Stanley Cup Playoff game.
Signed by the Vancouver Canucks as an undrafted free agent on July 13, 2022, Kuzmenko has 182 points (85 goals, 97 assists) in 271 regular-season games for the Canucks, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers and Kings and six points (three goals, three assists) in seven playoff games.
“Just somebody that has a history of scoring goals,” Penguins assistant general manager Jason Spezza said. “I think his down-low play and his ability to play around the net fits into the style of play that we play. I think if you look at the skill set that he has, he can help our power play out in a few different spots.”
The Penguins also signed defensemen Trevor van Riemsdyk (two years, $4 million average annual value) and Declan Carlile (two years, $1.5 million AAV) on Wednesday.
Van Riemsdyk, 34, had 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 68 games for the Washington Capitals last season. Signed by the Chicago Blackhawks as an undrafted free agent on March 24, 2014, van Riemsdyk has 161 points (28 goals, 133 assists) in 751 regular-season games for the Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes and Capitals and six points (two goals, four assists) in 45 playoff games.
Van Riemsdyk won the Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2015.
“(He’s a) guy that can play both sides,” Spezza said. “Been around the League for a long time, 35 years old. … A guy that I think fits in well with what we’re trying to do.”
Carlie, 28, had three points (one goal, two assists) in 42 regular-season games for the Tampa Bay Lightning last season and no points in two playoff games. He has four points (two goals, two assists) in 46 career games.
