Jets Stymied By Sabres

WIINNIPEG – The Winnipeg were playing their fourth game in six days, a tough part of the early season schedule although they had Saturday off after posting back to back wins Thursday and Friday .WPG Jets logo

This afternoon’s opponent, the Buffalo Sabres, were coming off a shootout loss on Thursday night when they blew a three-goal lead in the third period.

This afternoon they jumped out to a three-goal lead and never looked back as they won 3-1 behind a solid goaltending performance from Robin Lehner.

Lehner was the difference maker as he made 37 saves including 17 in the third period. He made several big stops including robbing Mark Sheifele and Dustin Byfuglien a few times each.

The Jets dominated play and went 0 for 6 on the power play, something that has haunted them on more then a few occasions this season.

Michael Hutchinson started the game in goal for the Jets and made 12 saves on 15 shots before being pulled in the second in favor of Connor Hellebuyck who finished with 13 saves in a period and a half of work.

Hutchinson was pulled to try and spark the Jets who needed something but just ran into a hot goalie in Lehner.

Kyle Okposo, the big free agent signing by the Sabres, got his thirdrd and fourth goals of the season and Brian Gionta added his third to do all the damage for the Sabres.

Nik Ehlers notched his second of the year after some nice work from Blake Wheeler and Byfuglien.

The Jets were without Tyler Myers as he was banged up and is listed as day to day .

Paul Postma was back in after being a healthy scratch the last three games.

Winnipeg will play host to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night and look to get back into the win column.
