QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. —Paying 19:15 without a goal Halifax scored two goals in 28 seconds span signing a 2-0 wins against the Quebec Remparts. Stationed in slot Cornor Moynihan got Halifax team on board playing on their second power play advantage in the game. Blocking all Quebec 31 shots former Quebec netminder Eric Brassard registered his second shutout.
While Halifax had the edge early in the first period, Quebec got the advantage in second half but neither team was able to get a puck behind the other goaltenders. No penalty has been called in first period.
For the second consecutive period, neither team was able to break the ice forcing both netminders to make key saves to keep the game scoreless after forty minutes of play.
Quebec goaltender faced two Halifax players on breakaway. Getting first power play opportunity following a penalty to Halifax defenseman Walter Flowers, Andrew Shewfelt went on breakaway missing his shot, Joel Bishop in another occasion on breakaway at even strength also missing his shot as the puck went on the glass behind Callum Booth.
Brassard also got chance to showcase his talent making blocker save as he faced a two-on-one breakaway as Matthew Boucher and veteran 20 year old Alexandre Sills went on two-on-one. Taking the shot Boucher forced brassard to use his blocker to make the save as Quebec played in shorthanded situation. Quebec right winger Bronson Beaton was in the penalty box.
A penalty to Quebec defenseman Austin McEneney for hooking at 18:01 with the score still 0-0 opened the door to Halifax to get on board. Defending themselves playing four-on-five Quebec defenseman Aaron Dutra got a chance to go on two-on-one breakaway. Taking the option to shoot instead of passing Dutra’s shot has been block by Eric Brassard. Pushing the puck to teammate Maxime Fortier the Halifax right winger found Cornor Moynihan in slot, his shot beat Quebec goalie for first goal of the game at 19:15 of third period.
28 seconds later a shot from mid-ice by Andrew Shewfelt sealed the fate of Quebec Remparts with 18.9 seconds on the clock.
Quebec next game will be on Friday visiting the Moncton Wildcats.
