Guildford and Cardiff win against French sides

Guildford Flames and Cardiff Devils both picked up pre-season wins over French opposition on Saturday.

The Flames played their first exhibition game of the season, running out 4-1 road winners over Jokers de Cergy-Pontoise, just north of Paris.

Goals from Karl Boudrias and Cole Sanford put Guildford two up after the first period, before captain Matt Alvaro added a third in the second. Josh Waller scored in the third, with the hosts adding a consolation before the end.

Just Fazio played the first half of the game, while Brad Arvanitis took over for the second half.

In Cardiff, the Devils were 4-2 winners against Ducs d’Angers at the Vindico Arena.

Josh MacDonald put Cardiff ahead in the first period, before a Ryan Barrow penalty shot, won by the same player, doubled the lead with 4:34 left in the second. Before the middle period was out, Orrin Centazzo pulled one back for the Ducs.

Sami Tavernier tied the game with 12:23 remaining, but the Devils went back ahead when Joey Martin found MacDonald in the slot. The goal was challenged for offside by Angers Head Coach, and former Nottingham Panthers man, Jonathan Paredes, but was upheld after a quick review.

MacDonald completed his hat-trick with a slapshot at 59:14 to round off the game.
