I couldn’t have asked for a better start” – that’s the message from Deeside Dragons forward James Parsons, after his side took top spot in the Laidler Conference.
Wins over Blackburn Eagles and Widnes Wild saw the Dragons establish an early lead, as they look to match the ambitions of Red Hockey stablemates, Telford Tigers.
Deeside stalwart Parsons was heavily involved in those two victories, scoring four times against Blackburn on Saturday and once against Widnes the next day.
And the 27-year-old is looking for more of the same against Altrincham Aces on Saturday night.
He said: “Our form has improved from last year and I definitely think starting our training in July is part of that. The new lads have come in and they’ve fitted in well. We want to keep that form going this weekend.
“I couldn’t have asked for a better start, personally, with scoring four goals on Saturday night. But the whole team has come together and is looking really good.
“It was great to beat Widnes on Sunday. They have beaten us the last four times we’ve played them, so it felt nice to give them some payback. To come back from 3-1 down showed a lot of character.”
The new arrivals at Chester Road, including Filip Siupa and Adrian Palak, had been expected to take some time to bed into their new surroundings.
But Parsons claims they have slotted into the Dragons squad straight away.
“With new players coming in, they sometimes take time to gel,” he added.
“This year, guys like Filip and Adrian seemed to have gelled straight away, though. The lads are great in the changing room, and with guys like Owen Bennett around, they have clicked already.
“Altrincham will be a different team this weekend. We haven’t played them for a few years and they have always been a hard-working set of players.
“Team morale here is flying at the moment and I can’t wait for the game.”
