The NHL’s mandatory five-game break has had a dismal record for most teams coming out of the break. But the Dallas Stars reversed that trend with a 5-2 win in their first game back over the Arizona Coyotes Friday.
“I think that makes us 3-0 out of breaks (All-Star break and Christmas), so that was nice,” Dallas’  Devin Shore said. “We wanted to take the positives of the break and not worry about what the record’s been for other teams. I think guys [Thursday] and even [Friday] morning were recharged.”
The record for teams coming out of the break is now 5-12-4.
The Stars had the fresher legs and struck three times in the third period to get the win; Jamie Benn, Lauri Korpikoski and Cody Eakin scored in the final frame.
Shore and John Klingberg also scored for Dallas.
Radim Vrbata and Martin Hanzal scored for the Coyotes.
Kari Lehtonen made 25 saves to get the win.

Louis Domingue took the loss on saves.
Prior to puck drop, the Stars traded Patrick Eavesto the Anaheim Ducks for draft pick.
“We’ve been linemates for most of this year it seems like. One of the most unselfish players I’ve ever played with and a great teammate and a great guy. It was tough to hear that news today,” Benn on the Eaves trade.
