Coach York gets his 999th win, as the Eagles beat Terriers

The Boston College Eagles took on the Boston University Terriers on Friday night at Conte Forum. The battle of Commonwealth Avenue is on of the oldest rivalries in college hockey dating back to 1918. Thatcher Demkmo started in net for the Eagles opposed by Sean MaGuire for the Terriers.

The games started out with both teams battling early for possession. The game started chippy early in the first period with both teams going hard in the corners. The two teams traded chances through much of the first period, forcing Demo and MaGuire to come up with so big saves.Boston College Eagles

Steve Santini took a boarding penalty that put the Eagles on the penalty kill. Freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson scored for the Terriers assisted by Ahti Oksanen and Matt Grzelcyk. The Eagles continued to apply press late, but there wasn’t enough time to get something going.

The first period ended with the Eagles down by one and 8 to 5 in favor of BU. The second period started out completely different, Santini was back in the sin bin for BC. The Eagles took the puck on a shorthanded rush where Austin Cangelosi was tripped up on the play.

Changeless was given a penalty shot, which he converted on to tie the game. But the Terriers took the lead again scoring on the power play. This time it was Ahti Oksanen assisted by Forsbacka Karlsson and Danny O’Regan.

The Eagles tied it up once again as Zach sanford put in the Ian McCoshen rebound, Alex Tuch also assisted on the goal. A Matt Grzelcyk penalty put the Terrier on the PK once again, and Bc was able to capitalize. Colin White Ottawa’s first round pick last year scored, assisted by Casey Fitzgerald.

The second period ended with the Eagles leading 3-2 and the shots 20 to 19 BU. The Eagles came back out for the Third period looking to hold off the BU attack. Demo was strong early in net for the Eagles not allowing very second chance opportunities to the Terriers players who were swarming the net.

The Eagles picked up their intensity, pounding away on Maguire. But he was strong and was able to make the saves that his team needed to stay in the game. With the period winding down the Terriers seemed to have the tying goal, but it was reviewed as Demo was pushed in the net on the play.

It was ruled that the puck had gone in before Demo was pushed, Bobo Carpenter got credit assisted by Matt Lane and Charlie McAvoy. But just two minutes later Capertar made the score sheet again, this time for a tripping minor sending BC to the power play. The Eagles made short work as Ian McCoshen scored with a rocket, assisted by Ryan Fitzgerald and Austin Cangelosi.

Moccasin was able to score again just over minute later as he sent it into the empty net, assisted by Miles Wood and Steve Santini. The eagles would hang onto the 5-3 victory, with the final shots 32 to 29 BC.
