KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Brady Brassart scored the tying and winning goals in the third period as the Quad City Mallards (7-3-1) came from behind to defeat the host Kalamazoo Wings (5-6-1) 2-1 Saturday night.
Brassart broke a 1-1 deadlock with just two minutes and 21 seconds left in the game with a wrist shot from the left wing circle after he poke-checked the puck off a Kalamazoo stick in the right wing circle and past Wings goaltender Joel Martin to tie the score four minutes into the third.
The Wings had taken a 1-0 lead when Anthony Camara roofed Tyler Shattock’s centering pass at 2:53 of the second period, but C.J. Motte- who finished the night with 22 saves- and the Mallards would hold Kalamazoo off the scoreboard the rest of the way to set the stage for Brassart’s heroics.
The Mallards return to action next Friday night on the road against the Fort Wayne Komets. The Mallards next play at home next Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Wheeling Nailers.
