STOCKTON, Calif. – As the summer days lead into the new ECHL season in October, ECHL team coaches are working to sign players to open roster positions.   Stockton Thunder’s Head Coach Matt Thomas has announced a golden opportunity for anyone interested in trying out to be a professional hockey player.   The 2012 Free Agent Camp is scheduled for September 21 – 23 at Oak Park Ice Arena in Stockton California.   This is a chance for aspiring professional hockey players to compete for spots in the training camp.   Players will participate in on ice training and scrimmage sessions during the three day event.

This is not the first year Thomas has hosted free agent tryouts.   Over the last three years, 20 selections have been from the Free Agent Camp to participate in Thunder training camp.   Several players have advanced to play in the ECHL and CHL.    Last year, eight players were accepted to training camp tryout agreement offers.

Following the three day camp session, a minimum of one goaltender, one forward and one defenseman will be invited to attend the Thunder Training Camp.   Camp registration is $150 per player and players can learn more about the opportunity by vising www.stocktonthunder.com .   Space is limited and reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Since Thomas’ arrival in 2008, the Thunder have won 4 playoff series, tied for first in the Pacific Division (2010/11) and have never missed the playoffs, advancing to the Conference finals in 2009/10. The Thunder is currently affiliated with the Edmonton Oilers and the Oklahoma City Barons of the AHL. The Thunder is backed by one of the largest crowds in the league, consistently among the top three since their opening day in 2005, and averaged 5,916 fans at each game last season.

Anyone that has had the dream of making the pro’s should check into this chance, because as the saying goes, “You will never know, if you don’t try.”
