Pro Hockey News to set up NIHL North Division 1 Awards

DURH AM, UK – Prohockeynews will be setting up Player/Coach of the Year Awards as well as an All Star Select Team for NIHL North Division 1 this season. The captain and coach from every NIHL North 1 club will be eligible to vote in all categories towards the end of the season as will respected journalists who provide regular coverage of our league. The main rule being that those casting votes cannot vote for any players who ice for their own side.

Dave Carr a fellow prohockeynews contributor introduced a similar set of awards for the Southern Section of NIHL hockey last term which were very well received, these accolades were included in the Ice Hockey Annual 2012-13. Stewart Roberts editor of the Ice Hockey Annual is happy to include the NIHL North Division 1 awards in next year’s annual.
The idea has been run past a number of players/coach’s in the NIHL set up and all of those asked think that the awards would be a welcome addition.
Chris Wilcox coach of the Sheffield Spartans – “ The Spartans welcome such awards as they are voted for by players and coaches from around the league giving them more importance and make it much more of an accolade for the players involved! I think it’s an excellent idea.”
Ian Johnson Owner/Coach of the Sutton Sting – “ Sounds like a great idea, and something that we as a team and organisation will gladly support.”
Michael Bowman (Billingham) and DJ Good (Whitley) would be competing a forward position in the select side
