LOVELAND, Colo. – Two weeks of training camp and one actual game may not seem like enough preparation for a hockey team that is replacing more than half of it’s previous season’s players. As a proud affiliate of the AHL- St. John’s Ice Caps and the NHL – Winnipeg Jets the Colorado Eagles with Coach Chris Stewart and their talented and experienced staff hope the proof is in the pudding as they take on the Alaska Aces to start the 2012-2013 ECHL hockey season. In their only preseason test, the Eagles bested one of the league’s newest teams, The San Francisco Bulls, in a 7 to 6 shootout victory on Friday Oct. 5th.

Wearing jerseys with a pink motif, in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Eagles scored the first 5 goals before San Francisco was able to get on the scoreboard late in the first period. Periods two and three were all about momentum as the Bulls stole it away from Colorado by scoring five more goals in regulation as the Eagles struggled to score a single goal. After 60 minutes of play it was all tied at sixes.

Both goalies kept the nets clean through the five minute Overtime period but the shootout saw 4 goals scored with the final result going in the books as a Colorado win. The highlight of the game was the excellent work from Arthur Bidwill, a rookie defenseman and Colorado College alumni, who recorded two goals in first period along with the winning score in the shootout. After another week of training camp practices focusing on learning to play as a team and the addition of four players from St. John’s The Colorado Eagles coaching staff made their choices for the opening night roster of nineteen skaters, two goalies, and three reserve players.
