Charolotte rolls on down the highway in 5-2 win

NORFOLK, Vir – The Checkers moved to a record 12-3-2 on the season with an excellent win in Norfolk. Dan Ellis in the Checkers goal had a big night with 37 saves, while five different Charlotte players found the Admirals net.

In just under four minutes in the first period Charlotte took the lead through Jeremy Welsh from an assist by Zach Boychuk. The Admirals came right back to tie the game with Peter Holland scoring. The game was end to end until Sean Dolan managed to tip  a Justin Faulk shot into the Admirals net. Immediately Charlotte went further ahead on a power-play goal from Drayson Bowman.

Charlotte increased their lead when the second period started with Riley Nash scoring from a Bobby Sanguinetti shot. Sammy Vatanen then closed the gap for Norfolk but Charlottes reply was swift with Chris Terry beating Admirals goalie Igor Bobkov from a pass from Jordan to put them 5-2 ahead.

Norfolk made every attempt to reduce the lead but Ellis in the Checkers goal had a strong third period saving 18 shots, recording his fifth win of the season.

Charlotte returns to Time Warner cable Arena this weekend when they face the Oklahoma City Barons. The inaugural Checkers 5K Run/Walk will take place on Saturday November 24 in Uptown Charlotte.
