Charlotte drops regulation match to IceHogs, 5-4

ROCKFORD, Ill – With both teams playing for the third time in as many nights, the game got off to a slow start with the first period ending goalless.

The second period however was completely different with Rockford scoring through Martin St. Pierre and Brandon Pirri and then Chris Terry scoring a fortunate goal for Charlotte. Last year’s leading scorer sent the puck along the boards; it hit a defenseman and deflected past Rockford goalie, Alec Richards.

It took Charlotte 50 seconds to tie the game with Drayson Bowman scoring his third power-play goal in as many games when he tipped a shot from Zac Dalpe into the IceHogs net.

Rockford’s Jimmy Hayes put his side back on top with assists from Peter LeBlanc and St. Pierre.

The Checkers came back firing with Boychuk scoring on a pass from Victor Rask; the score was tied once again at 3-3.

The IceHogs restored their lead when Hayes scored his second of the night on a power-play with the assist going to Joe Lavin. Brandon Bollig put the game out of reach of the Checkers with goal number five. Immediately Zac Dalpe hit a shot from the left boards that beat IceHogs goalie Richards to get Charlotte within one but time ran out for the North Carolina team.

Justin Peters in the Charlotte goal made 36 saves suffering his first loss of the season.

The Checkers are now 3-1-1 on the season, they continue their road trip on Friday October 26, when they visit Grand Rapids Griffins. On Saturday/Sunday, October 27/28, they travel to play the Peoria Rivermen.

Charlotte’s home opener is on Sunday November 4 face-off 3pm.
