Blainville-Boisbriand stops Quebec winning streak at seven

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Coming to Blainville-Boisbriand to play their sixth game in nine nights, their third one in as many nights, Quebec lost for the first time after seven consecutive victories. Leading by one (2-1) after the first period, the Armada, playing their fourth game in the last five nights was able to keep their lead, winning 4-2 in front of 3,250 fans in Centre d’excellence sports Rousseau.
In control of the game on the main scoreboard 3-1 after forty minutes, Blainville-Boisbriand saw one of his players, Stephane Mateau Jr, ejected from the game following a five-minute penalty as the aggressor giving Quebec, an opportunity to come back.
Being 1-in-5 with a man-advantage, Quebec took advantage of their sixth power play opportunity in the game, cutting Blainville-Boisbriand lead in half, with Marc-Antoine Carrier third goal of the year at 7:28.
Already taking advantage of five minutes to Armada forward Mateau, Nick Sorensen did not pick the best moment to be guilty of boarding, ending his team’s power play. Playing with four players on both sides, Blainville-Boisbriand regained their two-goal lead with a Tommy Giroux goal at 9:54.
Unable to control the rebound after the first shot by Cedrick Paquette, Francois Brassard did not have a chance on a wrist shot by Giroux who beat the Quebec netminder to the right.
Quebec opened the scoring on their their first power play of the game. Ryan Culkin’s shot from the blue line gave no chance to Blainville-Boisbriand goaltender Etienne Marcoux at 7:19. Armada defenseman Olivier Picard was in penalty box for slashing.
Blainville-Boisbriand replied with the next two goals both with man-advantages. Losing the puck at the hand of Philippe Sange, Duncan MacIntyre was unable to prevent Marc-Olivier Roy to beat Quebec netminder Francois Brassard with a precise shot, during a penalty to Quebec defenseman David Hunter. Roy’s goal came at 15:56.
Blainville-Boisbriand took the lead for first time in the game, on second goal of the year by Armada defenseman Xavier Ouellet, tipping in the puck behind Quebec netninder with 37 seconds remaining in the opening period.
After seeing three goals scored in the first period, only one was scored in the second. Hidden behind Quebec defenseman Duncan MacIntyre, the Armada center Philippe Sange digs Quebec hole deeper scoring Blainville-Boisbriand third goal with 1:47 remaining to middle frame.
After coming out of six games in nine nights, Quebec will play only one game over the next weekend and that game will be in Gatineau Friday facing the Olympques.
