Bison complete roster for new season

BASINGSTOKE, UK – The Bison have completed their roster for the forthcoming EPL season with the signing of Canadian forward Greg Chambers and Czech Republic defenseman Tomas Fojtik.
Chambers who hails from Toronto is no stranger to Basingstoke having spent four years there when the club were in the Elite League.
Having started his career played in the OHL for the Peterborough Petes for three campaigns including a season high 89 (41+48) points.
The 29-year-old moved to the ECHL recording 42 (12+30) points for the Pensacola Ice Pilots and then to Italy to play for Varese.
In the autumn 2005 he arrived in Britain for the first time and played for the Bison in their final four years in the Elite League.
He scored no less than 93 goals and also added 160 assists to a points tally of 253. All three are Basingstoke records for the Elite League.
With the Herd moving to the EPL, Chambers headed north linking up with the Coventry Blaze where he was reunited with top Brit Greg Owen and fellow Canadian Brad Cruikshank – the trio having been one of the most lethal lines in the Bison’s history.
There the Toronto-born forward helped the Blaze to the Elite League crown in the first of two seasons with the club.
Last year, he enjoyed success again with the Guildford Flames helping them to a EPL league and cup double.
Arriving back in Basingstoke he will once again link-up with Owen signed earlier in the summer and at moment the pair are set to start the campaign with the Bison’s leading goal scorer last term Joe Miller on their line which on paper looks as good as any forward trio in the league
“ It will be great to be back in Basingstoke and I am excited about the team Shep (Doug Sheppard) has put together,” said Chambers.
“Chubbs (Greg Chambers) is a player who can change a game and he links up so well with Greg Owen. This gives us a bit of everything in the team,”   said Bison player/coach Sheppard.
The import quartet at the Herd is completed by Fojtik who standing 6ft 5in and weighting in 250lbs is going to proved to be a massive presence on the blue line.
This will be his first season in Britain, but the 28-year-old from Koprivnice in the Czech Republic has played right across Europe including Slovakia, Italy and most recently in France.
He also played two seasons in the North America with the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL and Fresno Falcons in the ECHL.
Last year he hit a career high five goals in his time at Reims, but that is sure to improve now playing in the EPL.
“I spoke to his coach when in the ECHL and was told me he skates well and can certainly look after himself. I think he is going to be an excellent addition to a really sold looking defensive unit,” said Sheppard.
