York blanks Gladiators in 1-0 victory

Duluth, Ga. – Allen York recorded his first shutout of the season on Monday as the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack, whitewashed the Atlanta Gladiators (24-13-2) in a 1-0 decision at the Infinite Energy Center. It was Greenville’s second shutout of the season.

The fifth-year netminder stopped all 31 shots he faced on the afternoon, while Scott Fleming scored the only goal. It was also York’s ninth professional shutout and the sixth of his ECHL career.

After more than 45 minutes of scoreless play, the Swamp Rabbits broke the ice at 5:30 of the third period with the game’s only goal. From the top of the left circle, Justin DaSilva corralled the puck, delayed and fired a low wrist shot that was stopped by goaltender Kent Patterson. The rebound, however, bounced right to Fleming in the slot who pushed home his 11th goal of the season.

In an attempt to tie the game, the Gladiators pulled Patterson with less than two minutes play, but could not convert. Patterson made 29 saves on 30 shots in the loss for Atlanta.

In addition, the Swamp Rabbits finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. Atlanta outshot Greenville 31-30.

The Swamp Rabbits return to SANDLAPPER Securities Rink at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena tomorrow for Service Industry Night at 7 p.m.
