Calgary wrapped up their 10-game road swing with a hard-fought 2-1 overtime loss to the Ontario Reign at Toyota Arena, with Aydar Suniev providing the Wranglers only strike of the night.
After a cagey, scoreless opening frame, Calgary finally broke through in the second.
Suniev stepped into a heavy blast from the high slot, threading it through a maze of bodies and past Isaiah Saville. Daniil Miromanov picked up the helper on the play as the Wranglers briefly grabbed control.
Ontario answered back before the period was out, with Andre Lee levelling the score and setting the stage for a tense final stanza.
The third featured plenty of back-and-forth looks, but neither side could find the go-ahead marker.
Murphy stood tall throughout, turning aside 23 shots and keeping Calgary in the fight.
With both teams trading chances but refusing to budge, the match was forced into extra time.
In overtime, it was Ontario’s Joe Hicketts who ended it, slipping the winner home to give the Reign the series edge, finishing the regular-season set at 3-1.
The Wranglers now head home where they will play their next six games at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Their next matchup will be against their rival Coachella Valley Firebirds on Dec. 9 and Dec. 11.
