Wood, Devils thump Flyers, 4-1

PHILADELPHIA – For the New Jersey Devils, it was the Miles Wood show Saturday as the Devils thumped the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-1.

Wood had two goals in the New Jersey victory but seemed to be everywhere on the ice even when he was between shifts.

“That’s the way I play,” Wood said. “It’s always fun to be in these type of games. The crowd was great tonight. I thought we fed off of that.”

The rookie was also throwing his body around.

“He was really moving his feet and he was a factor in the game and that’s sometimes what happens,” Hynes said. “[Friday] night he was working but nothing was going for him. And tonight he responded really well. That’s good to see for a rookie, to be able to respond like that in a back to back.”

Keith Kinkaid made 35 saves for the Devils in the win.

“Everyone was going until the end,” Kinkaid said. “Everyone’s in and I think we out-battled them in every facet of the game.”

Travis Konecny scored the lone goa for the Flyers who dropped to 22-19-6.

Michal Neuvirth started for the Flyers but was pulled after two periods for precautionary reasons as described by the team; he was replaced by Steve Mason for the third period.

The Flyers have now lost 12 of 15 games with a 3-9-3 record over that span.

“If we want to rest on confidence sagging, that’s the wrong answer. Our answer is pull together, dig in and get back to work,” Philadelphia head coach Dave Hakstol said.
