Watertown – It was time for the third and last game of the 3-game weekend between Wolves and Prowlers. The game started with a lower pace then the previous two games between the teams. About 8 minutes into the period, Wolves got the first goal of the game, scored by Tyler Dellina, who got his first goal of the season. Shortly after that,
Ryan Devine got a 2-minute penalty for cross-checking. However, Port Huron didn’t manage to score, instead Wolves almost scored even though being down a man.
Just twenty seconds after being 5 on 5 again, Kyle Heitzner got his first goal of the game and third of the season, to make it 2-0 Wolves.
It was a little heated on both sides the rest of the period, and in the last minute Justin MacDonald scored his first of the game, and his 7th this weekend to make it 3-0, which was the result we went to the first intermission with.
The second period had barely started before Port Huron got their first goal of the game. Larri Vartianen cut the Wolves lead to 3-1 only 26 seconds into the game, and Port Huron got a little bot of momentum going. Beukeboom had a couple of good saves in the first half of the period to keep at 3-1.
MacDonald had a couple of magic moves that could have resulted in another goalie for him, but Port Hurons goalie now had to do some spectacular saves instead. Port Huron got another goal after 13.20 when Stavros Soilis found an opening behind Beukeboom, however, with only 4 seconds to go of the period, Cole McKechney got his 24th goal of the season, and we went to the second intermission Wolves up 4-2.
The third period came off to a pretty slow start, with both teams looking fairly tired after the two previous games and the long trip Friday night.
Half way thru the third period Port Huron got a 5 on 3 for over a minute, this quickly went to a 4 on 3 though after a hooking on MacDonald when he came alone with the goalie. The power plays didn’t lead to any goals for neither team, but after 16.20 Colin Chmelka got his fifteenth goal of the season to make it 5-2 for the home team.
Wolves wasn’t done with the goal scoring yet though, Rocco Dicostanzo also got a goal to make it 6-2, his twelfth of the season.
The game finished 6-2, and the Wolves will have a few days off now, before a long trip down to Columbus for a 3-game series, starting Friday. The Wolves and Prowlers have one more series during regular season, that one will be played in Port Huron 25th-27th March.
