Wolves Smoke Hogs In Shootout PHN's Best Shots of the Game

ROSEMONT, IL with a 5-3 win the night before in Grand Rapids, the Chicago Wolves earned another 3-2 victory over the Rockford Icehogs Saturday evening at the Allstate Arena.

Josh Leivo gave the Wolves the only goal in the third round of the shootout. Wolves forwards Maxim Letunov and C.J. Smith scored in regulation for the Wolves (10-4-1-1) who are first place in the Central Division. Goaltender Alex Lyon denied 17 of 19 shots in regulation, overtime and stopped all of three Rockford’s shootout opportunities. 

As many matchups this season against Rockford, this would be the fifth time as many games that the Wolves would score first. Wolves Letunov speeds races to the net while Jamieson Rees and Joey Keane would move the puck to Smith. Smith blasts a one-timer and Letunov would tip it in for a power-play goal.

Rockford (5-7-1-1) would tie it up with 33 seconds into the second period. Defenseman Isaak Philips got a pass from Evan Barratt and sizzled a angled shot to put it in. 

The Icehogs would make it 2-1 when defenseman Jakub Galvas snip a shot go off a Wolves defenseman and detoured into the net. 

Smith celebrated his 200th AHL game by tying the game with 5:9 remaining in regulation. Captain  Andrew Poturalski and Dominik Bokk would break the puck free, Smith would take possession of the puck behind the net and wraps home a wraparound for a 2-2 tie.

Lyon (4-1-1) earned the win while Rockford’s Collin Delia (1-1-1) posted 26 saves in the loss.
