Wolves Hunt Moose To Earn 10th Straight Win

ROSEMONT,IL It was a wild and intense game between the American Hockey Leagues Central Divisions top two teams. Josh Leivo scored within 1.1 seconds left to give the Chicago Wolves a 4-3 victory during first of three School-Day games Thursday afternoon at Allstate Arena.

Wolves defensemen Artyom Serikov and forwards Maxim Letunov and David Cotton would also cash in on some goal scoring for the Wolves (18-4-1-1) who are leading the Central Division and extend their winning streak to 10 games.

Leivo would skate to the net in the final moments. He would collect a pass from Jamieson Rees’ at the blue line. Doing a toe drag to escape Manitoba defensemen and backhanded one past goaltender Mikhail Berdin.

Manitoba (15-8-1-0) who is second place in the Central Division under the Wolves came out strong and led most of the way even though they were out with their top two scoerers.

Just 59 seconds into the game when Manitoba rebounded with two chances off Wolves goaltender Alex Lyon. However, Moose Jeff Malott would put one home for a 1-0 lead.

The Wolves would then get one right back at 13:01 of the first when Smallman would sails it defenseman Josh Jacobs . Leivo would pass  it to Serikov and would wrister a shot past Berdin.

The score would change when Manitoba upgraded to a 2-1 lead 3:10 into the second. Defensemen Johnathan Kovacevic would get the puck and centered it above crease. The puck would then bounce off a Wolves forward’s stick and ended up into an open net.

The Moose would continue to add on to the score of 3-1. Todd Burgess scored at 9:54 from a blocked shot that was from the slot.

The Wolves then would pull within a goal just 8.3 seconds before the second intermission. Joey Keane found Jamieson Rees would center a pass, Letunov would get a redirected from outside of the crease to make it a 3-2 lead.

Chicago caught up at 9:17 of the third on Cotton’s power-play goal. Leivo gets a pass from the left circle to the right circle for Smith, who blasted a shot that clanged off the post. Cotton, waiting right on the doorstep, swatted home the rebound for a 3-3 knot.
