Woll , Leafs motor past Washington, 4-1 Woll makes 36 saves in first start for Maple Leafs - Update to follow

In Washington, DC, Joseph Woll made 36 saves  for the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs in a 4-1 win over the Capitals on Tuesday evening.

Morgan Rielly e staked the Maple Leafs to a 1-0 lead at 12:53 of the first period.

Toronto scored three times in the second period to take full control of the game.

John Tavares pushed the advantage to 2-0 at 5:41 of the middle frame, after Alex Ovechkin was stopped by Woll on penalty shot.

William Nylander scored 48 seconds later to give the Maple Leafs a 3-0 lead in the second.

Auston Matthews scored at 15:07 to balloon the lead to 4-0 for the Leafs.

Ovechkin finally scored for the Caps, his first of the season, with 11 seconds left in the second for the 4-1 final.

Darcy Kuemper made 13 saves in the loss..
