The Detroit Red Wings finally broke through for their first home win of the season in a 4-2 stunner over the Dallas Stars.
The Wings struck for three goals in the third period.
Jonathan Bernier made 28 saves to pick up the win.
“We’ll take any bounce right now,” Bernier said. “It’s been a tough start for us, and we all know it in the room. We know we’ve got to step up our game, and I thought tonight we did.”
Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi, Jonathan Ericsson and Justin Abdelkader scored for Detroit who improved to 2-7-2.
“Once we got the lead, I thought we played with confidence and poise,” Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said. “And for a team that hasn’t won nearly enough, I think that’s a great sign.”
Gemel Smith and Radek Faksa scored for the Stars who dropped to 5-5-0.
“We were just slow,” Dallas head coach Jim Montgomery said. “We were slow thinking, we were slow skating, and it led to a poor performance.”

Ben Bishop made 19 saves in the loss.
“It’s really unacceptable, to be honest,” Bishop said. “We come in here against a team that’s been struggling, and we go out and kind of just play to their level. We just went out there, and we just kind of played hockey. We did some good things, we did some bad things. We didn’t take control. I think we’re a better team than what we showed today.”
