NEWCASTLE, UK – Summer signing Rob Wilson has been released by the Newcastle Vipers after only 4 competitive games in the 2010/11 campaign. Prohockeynews.com spoke to Wilson on the eve on the season and the former Whitley Warrior was eager to prove himself at Elite League level however that chance has now been taken away from the physical defenceman.
There has been no announcement as to whether Wilson is to return to the Warriors line up however Whitley have few experienced blue liners available at present so Wilson could well be back in the maroon and gold in the next couple of weeks. Whitley have recently re-signed Peter Zajac and Ali Brummit to strengthen their roster as a spate of early season injuries has left Warrior‘s Coach Simon Leach with a small squad to work with.
Dean Holland has res-signed for Newcastle Vipers and it is thought that the youngster will compete for a slot on the clubs 3rd forward line. It seemed that Holland would spend the 10/11 season playing in the EPL for the Manchester Phoenix after he signed for Tony Hand’s side in the close season. However it would appear that the young forward never settled in the northwest as he went onto ice twice for Dundee Stars at the start of the campaign before he agreed to return to the north east and ice for Vipers once more.
Even though Holland played for Vipers as recently as April this year, there are few players in the current squad who Holland will have iced with before. Only Jamie Tinsley and Nathan Salem remain from the last season’s roster as new Vipers coach Danny Stewart looks to take the club forward.
Holland will be hoping to get amongst the points in the next few weeks as he looks to establish himself as a competent Elite League forward after a disappointing term last year when Dean only picked up 11 (4+7) points in over 60 games for the Vipers.
