Wild rally past Kings for OT win

In Los Angeles, the visiting Minnesota Wild walked away with a second straight win over the Kings, this time, by a 4-3 score in extra time.

Cam Talbot made 30 saves get the win.

The Wild needed two goals in the third period to rally back from a 1-3 deficit.

Joel Eriksson Ek got them close in the eighth minute of the third period to make it 3-2.

Marcus Johansson completed the rally when he potted the game-winner with just under 11 seconds left in the extra session.

“I didn’t get a lot of it, but it turned out to be a nice little chip shot and I’ll take that any day,” said Johansson.

Ryan Suter scored with less 1.5 seconds left in regulation to force extra time.

“It’s unbelievable to see that we can turn games around like this,” Johansson said. “Obviously, we don’t want to do that every night, but it shows the strength we have in this group and they believe in what we’re doing. What’s great about it is we’re not doing it on individual efforts or anything like that. We’re doing it as a team. We’re sticking with it and working hard and we’re making plays when we have to make plays, and that’s a big strength to be able to do that.”

Gabriel Vilardi,Blake Lizotte and Andreas Athanasiou were the Kings’ strikers in the loss.

“That’s two games in a row that played out almost identical in a lot of different ways, and there’s no reason why we should let either of them get away on us, but they obviously did, so there are things that we need to work on,” Kings head coach Todd McLellan said.

Matt Dumba scored with 21 seconds gone in the game to give the Wild an early 1-0 lead.

“We’re trying to keep the push on and not take our foot off the gas,” the Kings’ Mikey Anderson. “If you sit back and go into a shell, we’re kind of just asking for them to start peppering us and giving up higher-quality chances.”
