Wild outlast Columbus in 3-2 shootout win

In Columbus Tuesday night, the Minnesota Wild’s Devan Dubnyk made 28 saves to backstop the Wild to a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets in a shootout.

Zach Parise potted the game-winner in the skills competition.

“When we get four lines going like that, we can overwhelm teams and get them hemmed in and bring pucks to the net,” Dubnyk said. “There’s a couple of goals that easily could have gone in with a little luck, and [Bobrovsky] played well as usual.”

Jason Zucker and Charlie Coyle scored in regulation for Minnesota who improved to 27-18-5.

“We wanted to put the past in the past and use this game as a steppingstone in the right direction,” Coyle said.

The Jackets got strikes from Artemi Panarin and David Savard.

The Wild need points and the two from the win will help in their divisional race.  For head coach Bruce Boudreau, the road win was a result of good execution.

“The first 10 minutes of the second period were a perfect road game, getting it deep, shooting at the net, going at the net, doing all the simple things,” Boudreau said. “Even after they scored in the first period, we didn’t give them much.”

Sergei Bobrovsky made 41 saves in taking the loss as the Jackets dropped to 27-19-4 with the loss.

“We lost battles at the beginning of the second. We’ve got to win more battles,” Columbus head coach John Tortorella said. “Without [Bobrovsky], we have no chance if he doesn’t play.”
