Wild hold off late charge by Capitals for 5-3 win Johansson pots double in win - Update to follow

In St Paul, the Wild held off a furious late game push by the visiting Washington Capitals in a 5-3 win on Tuesday night.

The win was the third straight for Minnesota.

The Wild took a 5-1 lead in the third period before the Caps replied with two late markers.

T.J. Oshie scored off the power play at 17:03 of the third to shave the deficit to 5-2.

Anthony Mantha  scored his second of the game to get the Caps within two at 5-3 with 1:36 left on the clock for the 5-3 final count on the scoreboard.

Minnesota took a 2-0 lead in the opening stanza.

Brock Faber struck with 97 seconds of game fresh ice used for a 1-0 lead to the Wild.

Marcus Foligno  pushed the lead to 2-0 at 4:42,.

Capitals dropped to 22-17-6 off their second straight loss.

In the middle frame, Marcus Johansson  collected the first of his double at 6:26 for a 3-0 lead to Minnesota.

Mantha potted his first of the game midway through the second to get the Caps on the board at 3-1 to the Wild.

Joel Eriksson Ek gave the Wild a little more breathing room at 1:37 of the third period  off a breakaway goal for a 4-1 advantage to the Wild.

Johansson collected his double at 13:39 before the Caps rallied with two late in the frame. Darcy Kuemper made 25 saves in the loss.
