Chris Stewart scored the game-winner in the shootout on a backhand.

“Mikko (Koivu) went in there and went in on the same angle, so I thought I’d come in and try it low blocker and beat him,” Stewart said. “I’ve been pretty good on shootouts and breakaways lately, so I knew I’d get out there if it got too deep.”

Kari Lehtonen took the loss for Dallas on 31 saves.

“Missed opportunities,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. “I thought our overtime was our best of the year. But again, we found a way to give a point away.”

Missed opportunities indeed as the Stars had a 3-on-0 break in overtime but missed the net on the attempt.

“I just turned my head and didn’t even want to look, and then I heard the crowd not cheering,” Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. “I said what the [heck] happened there … there was a 3-on-0 and there’s only three men on the ice, you’ve got to think something bad is coming up.”v

Jason Pominville and Mikko Koivu scored in regulation for the Wild.

Patrick Eaves and Tyler Sequin scored for the Stars.

“When you’re struggling, you’ve got to put your best foot forward. And try to earn your wins, try to outwork the other team, try to win the small games inside the game. The 1-on-1 battles, the 50/50 battles, backchecking battles, and I thought as the game went I thought we just got better and better,” Ruff said after the tough loss.
