The Minnesota Wild scored twice in the first period and Devan Dubnyk made 26 saves in a 3-2 win over the Red Wings in Detroit.
If the trade deadline serves any purpose, it is the shake up that they can cause in those left behind.
“(Dubnyk) made some 10-bell saves out there when we needed them,” Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau said. “Hopefully, he’s getting his confidence back for when we go back home.”
The Wild won their second straight after Charlie Coyle was traded to the Boston Bruins from Ryan Donato.
“That trade was a real wake-up call for all of us,” Wild defenseman Ryan Suter said. “All of a sudden, we’ve lost a great player and someone who we were also close with. We know we have a good team that is capable at a high level, but we need to do it every night.”
Luke Kunin, Eric Staal and Jordan Greenway scored for the Wild.
“Those guys played last night in New York, so they were looking at a tough back-to-back with travel, but we were the ones who weren’t ready to play,” Dylan Larkin said. “We didn’t have nearly enough effort in the first period, and we can’t put that on anyone but ourselves.”
Anthony Mantha and Tyler Bertuzzi scored for the Red Wings.

Jonathan Bernier made 32 saves in the loss.
“I didn’t like our dig level at all,” Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill said. “They are a good defensive team, but we didn’t make this game nearly hard enough on them.”
