Wild double up Lightning, 4-2

In St Paul, two third period goals by the Minnesota Wild were enough to give them a 4-2 win over the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday.

Ryan Hartman hit for the first of the two goals in the period, to break a 2-2 tie.

“I don’t think I’ve had a goal with time and space, like get a full shot off,” Hartman said. “I’ve had to be quick or something with a rebound. I’m trying to think about some of them, but it’s not a bad problem to have, I guess. But, yeah, just trying to play the game the right way and when you get chances, try to be opportunistic with them.”

The Wild improved to 14-6-1.

Cam Talbot made 28 saves and collected an assist in the Wild win.

“We got our looks, and we didn’t capitalize,” Lightning head coach Jon Cooper said. “… Just made colossal error in the D-zone on that third goal. When you do that against a good team, they make you pay. We had our chance, we didn’t make them pay, hence we had nothing on them.”

Nick Bjugstad put the Wild up 1-0 in the first period.

Corey Perry replied to tie the game, 1-1.

The Lightning dropped to 12-5-3.

Victor Rask scored before the end of the opening stanza to give the Wild a 2-1 lead.

“The commitment level was really high tonight and obviously when you’re playing against the Stanley Cup champions, our guys are really dialed in,” Wild head coach Dean Evason said. “We made a couple turnovers but certainly in those last [few minutes with an] empty net, they were real committed. We had great blocks. Good sticks. Yeah, we were really happy.”

Alex Killorn tied, 2-2, midway through the middle frame.

“I thought it was a pretty good game, two good teams,” said Killorn. “They play pretty well at home and just capitalized.”

Marcus Foligno iced the win with an empty-net goal for the  4-2 final.
