In St Paul Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota Wild defeated the Detroit Red Wings 6-3 as Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves for the win.
Detroit lost its fourth straight game and fell to 22-24-10.
Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter staked the Wild to a 2-0 first period on two power play goals.
The Wild scored three times with the man advantage.
Henrik Zetterberg, Anthony Mantha and Andreas Anthanasiou scored for the Red Wings.
“Yeah, it’s not fun. Nothing else we can do. Keep fighting, keep battling, keep getting better every day,” Zetterberg said of the Detoit losing skid.
Mantha cut the lead to 2-1 before Charlie Coyle upped it to a two-goal lead again but Zetterberg made it 3-2.
“I don’t think we played to our capability. A few goals that we’ve got to look at and correct and fix at practice tomorrow. But it didn’t feel like a 6-3 game. We pulled it out. That’s all that matters,” Coyle said.
Zach Parise scored early in the third for a 4-2 lead and Detroit responded with Anthanasiou’s goal.
Minnesota’s Christian Folin scored for the Wild to make it 5-3.
“Well, winning breeds [confidence],” Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau said. “If you’re losing and you’re in the same situation, you’re usually so worried like, ‘Here we go again. They’re going to tie it up.’ When you’re winning, you’re sitting there saying, ‘OK we’re going to find a way to keep this going.
“We weren’t very good for the most part tonight. That was the mental toughness that we have to have if we want to be successful.”
