White Scores, Picks up Assist as Petes Tie Eastern Conference Semi-Final at 1-1

Looking to bounce back from their first playoff loss, the Petes were in Ottawa on Sunday for game two of their Eastern Conference Semi-Final series against the Ottawa 67’s. The 67’s took game one on Friday in Ottawa by a score of 4-2, and were looking to make it a 2-0 start against the Maroon and White at home. With a win, the Petes would tie the series at one game a piece heading back to the PMC this week.

The Petes came out strong in the first, looking ready to steal a game from the number one seed 67’s. Seven minutes into the game, they would take their first lead of the series. After a big save from Michael Simpson, J.R. Avon fed Brennan Othmann on a two on one to give the Petes a 1-0 lead. Michael Simpson would continue to impress after the goal, stopping 16 shots in the period. Othmann’s goal would be the only one in the first 20 and the Petes took their lead into the break.

The second period started exactly the way the Petes were hoping. Just 30 seconds into the middle frame, Gavin White tee’d up a shot from the point for his first goal of the playoffs to make it 2-0. The Petes would dominate the play in the period, taking their 2-0 lead into the final 20.

Peterborough would hold the 67’s to just three shots in the third period, putting on a defensive masterclass. Ottawa would get one back with the goalie pulled, but it wasn’t enough as the Petes took game two by a score of 2-1, tying the Eastern Conference Semi-Final series 1-1.

Gavin White led the way for the Petes with a goal and an assist. Brennan Othmann scored, while J.R. Avon, Avery Hayes, and Tucker Robertson all picked up an assist. Michael Simpson stopped 25/26 for his fifth win of the playoffs.

The Petes return to the PMC on Tuesday, April 18 when they host the Ottawa 67’s for game three of the Eastern Conference Semi-Final. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fans can purchase tickets by clicking here, or by contacting the PMC Grant Thornton Box Office in person or at (705) 743-3561.
