Wheeling claims 2-1 road win

2016KellyCupREADING, Pa – It took three overtimes but the Wheeling Nailers and the Reading Royals finally finished their business on the ice with the Nailers coming out on top 2-1 to tie their series at 2-2 setting up a pivotal Game 5 Saturday in Reading. The game was the longest in Royals history and one of the longest games in ECHL history.

Cody Wydo, who was one of the stars in Game One of the series, was the hero on this night scoring his sixth goal of the playoffs at the 4:22 mark of the third overtime. The Nailers started Franky Palazzese in net instead of goaltender Brian Foster. The move payed off this night with Palazzese making 42 saves on 43 shots. The Royals elected to go back to Martin Ouellette for the second night in a row but no one should be complaining about the move considering that Ouellette made 50 saves on 52 shots.

Ty Loney had the lone goal for Wheeling in regulation with the first goal of the game at the 4:20 mark of the second period on the power play. Brandon Alderson scored the tying goal for Reading at the 13:02 mark of the third period.  Both teams were a combined 1-9 on the power play.

Game Six will go back to Wheeling next Monday.
